Save Half a Million Dollars
|
Church buildings are expensive. They
have an important purpose, so spending what is needed makes sense. But are
there ways to trim your building cost AND get a better building? Using simple
designs, widely available donated materials, and selective volunteer labor,
Pastor Miller has saved one congregation over $500,000 (and upgraded from
fluorescent strip lights to crystal chandeliers)!
 |
Under the traditional Design-Build
construction model, the project was supposed to cost about $900,000.
That plan presumed low-cost fluorescent strip lights, a very minimal computer
network, simple bathrooms, and a modest kitchen. The church couldn't
find a lender that would back that size of project. So they regrouped.
With Pastor Miller's leadership they built the same 7500 Square Feet,
remodeled anther 2000 Square Feet for a total cost less than $400,000.
AND...
 |
They upgraded to imported European
crystal chandeliers. |
 |
They wired the entire facility with
state of the art CAT6 cable for computer networking. |
 |
They upgraded to beautiful bathrooms
with showers and top quality fixtures. |
 |
They upgraded to an amazing kitchen
with commercial equipment, even including designer plates, bowls, and cups! |
 |
Their A/V control loft has beautiful
wood floors, professional racks customized for their equipment, and lots of
room for expansion. |
 |
The conference rooms have beautiful
conference tables. |
 |
The Pastor's office has more of the
hardware floors and beautiful custom bookcases. |
 |
The people love their new facility! |
|
 |
So, did they use some cute trick that
could never be replicated elsewhere? Did they have some special
connections that you don't? Did they utilize some tax code wrinkle that
has since been closed? NO. NO. NO. |
 |
They employed a set of strategies that
included:
 |
Design simplification |
 |
Carefully targeted use of volunteers |
 |
Donated materials - that are
available to any church |
 |
Symbiotic and strategic blending of
all the above. |
